Beaverhead River

Don’t let the size of the Beaverhead River fool you, it’s possibly the most prolific river in Montana. The upper section of the river below Clark Canyon Dam has a mixed bag of giant rainbows and robust brown trout. The hatches come off in epic proportions and the fish can’t help but eat and eat. Mainly a nymphing game, the Beaverhead River also has some noses poking if you know the right places to look. Big hatches on the Beaverhead include the Pale Morning Dun (PMD) and the Yellow Sallie Stonefly. There is also the evening caddis game and a great crane fly hatch, which can be a total riot! Skating dry flies for predatory brown trout is hard to beat!
